I am at a complete loss as to why this murder case because so huge compared
to any others. I had not actually heard of it until this assignment, but it
seems to have been everywhere in the media. In a world that brings more and
more movies and TV shows about these things from real life events, it's a
wonder why this specific situation became such a big deal to everyone. I can
only imagine this became such a big deal just as shows like Special Victims Unit
do, the curiosity of the people. It disgusting but we are all guilty of it,
watching these things, becoming engrossed in the spectacle of the situation.
I don't even know what my opinion is in the matter, I feel as though this
man may have been abusive to her but what kind of self-defense requires 27
stabbings, a gunshot wound, AND slitting the throat? With the information that
Jodi was a stalker we can probably assume no matter which kind of mental
problems she had, there was one and she is guilty of murder. I feel grateful I
am not one who has to decide her fate in this situation.
Yes, curiosity is a huge deal in this case. The facts are that women do not commit many murders compared to men, let alone a very gruesome one as this. She became an oddity, and many showed sympathy toward for being this oddity. I don't think this would have been the same, if she was a man.
ReplyDeleteThe case definitely gained the attention it did due to its uncommon nature. A woman brutally murdering someone & also being happy about releasing sexual pictures, messages, and phone calls to the court & media is rare, and the media also pounced on it, turning it into nothing but television ratings. The brutality the case dealt with became an afterthought.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the whole self-defense thing. I don’t understand how she could think that all of that could be justified for self-defense. She may have or had some kind of mental disorder with the whole reason for stalking but maybe she was just jealous. I also know I am also guilty of watching those kinds of shows but I think that we all enjoy the fiction of it until it becomes real to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your initial thoughts regarding that this specific murder case should have been broadcasted any more than any other murder case. I also hadn’t heard of this case until our respective blog entry on it. I think that is a great comparison when you mention the Special Victims Unit show, as that could certainly be a root of the nation’s curiosity regarding this specific case. I definitely agree with your mentality behind your statement saying what kind of defensive murder need 27 stabbings, a slit to the throat and a gunshot to the head, seems a tad excessive to me. With evidence like this it certainly points to her guilt rather than her being the victim of the crime.
