Nurturer to Murderer

The Jodi Aries trial was one that garnered such a large amount of attention due to Jodi herself. As history has shown, most killers tend to be white males. The fact that it was a female that had been the killer was shocking in and of itself. The second layer to the situation I think is the whole "damsel in distress" picture Jodi had tried to paint of herself. The prosecution was trying to show her as a cold blooded killer who had simply decided to end a man's life because of his lack of interest in her. This view cast her as a cold, mean woman who was hell bent to get whatever she wanted. Jodi tried to paint herself as a compassionate woman, someone who had been hurt and was simply trying to right her own wrongs. This view was more in line with how women are viewed generally. The story line was one the media could not turn away from. Which one was she, the stone cold harpy or the woman scorned. I believe the trial ended the way it did due to the complete conflict of view that existed in Jodi's story. Most crimes of passion are sudden, and not very violent. The extent of the damage that she had caused to Travis' body was a marked contrast to a sudden crime of passion. The fem fatal appearance prevailed, for now, as she will be getting another trial soon as she once again tries to prove it was a crime of passion.

  1. I really like how you wrote your essay and the comparisons you made like the damsel in distress. I could not agree more with your article. I think that she made it all about her and seemed like she was trying to just get famous. I think that it is awful, that they even allowed her to have interviews while she is in jail.
