I generally stay away from talking
about court cases because it is common for testimonies or other evidence to
only be known by those directly involved in the court case. I feel like people
jump to conclusions way too quickly based off of emotion or limited knowledge
of the events. I believe one of the main reason this case became as popular as
it did is because people could choose a side with confidence. While it was
surely already a popular case, the fact that Arias’ had changed her story is
enough indication to some people to decide that she is guilty, and when she
started claiming that it was self-defense everyone watching the case could
agree that she killed Alexander. The fact that everyone was in agreement meant
that the case could be talked about more openly because everyone was on the
same side.
What also
helped build the case up to the level it was at was Arias claiming that no jury
would convict her. This was probably taken by some onlookers as sort of a
challenge. It made her appear as if she knew she was getting away with a crime.
This certainly increased the attention that was being paid to the events
because people were surely waiting for her to eat her own words.
I also
believe that the case was interesting to people because it has a lot to talk
about. During my readings on the case it was sure to mention love, sex,
religion, and surely quite a bit of crazy. These are all things that people grab
people’s attention, and this case happened to be a mixture of all of that.
I agree with you. this case was interesting because it has a lot of mixture in it. like you said love, sex, religion and also abuse were the them of this case. as I watched the video of this case on YouTube I thought it was going to be one of the hardest case to convict her. I must admit I agreed at first that she wasn't going to be convicted.
ReplyDeleteI really like your article Sam. I did not think of it like they were waiting on her to choke her own words. I thought that she should have been accused immediately with the DNA evidence and the pictures on the cell phone. Also that the car she used for local runs around her town had 2800 miles when she returned it. But all in all i think that she committed a crime and should be treated as equal for the crime she committed, I do think that she was trying to get attention and that it wrong that she receives interviews for more attention.
