This Atrocious Spectacle

I remember when I first heard of Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander and how shocked I was at how gruesome the whole situation was. She claims self-defense but 27 stab wounds, a slit throat, and a gunshot wound is significant. I think the Jodi Arias trial became such a spectacle because of people’s behavior during the trial. There was an officer judging a singing contest with inmates and giving Arias interviews. Arias did not seem like she was worried much about what was happening to her, here she is on trial facing murder charges and she’s worried about how she looks. She also did not have a straight story; there was evidence against her which made the lies she told hard to believe. This trial would’ve been different if Arias had it approached better. I am not sure if what she said about Travis being abusive was true, but her behavior was not appropriate. I think this case was popular with the public because of how crazy it was. For some reason people are drawn towards crime and are fascinated with those kinds of shows. Also, Arias was not shy about letting the public into her life and keeping up with what was going on with her. I don’t know if she thought that would help her somehow, but she wanted to talk to the public. She was explicit when describing her sex life with Travis and seemed like she wanted the media’s attention. People also may have been interested in this case because they wanted to find out what was going to happen to her.

  1. Jodi Arias was definitely odd in a very charismatic way. She really enjoyed the fame that she got from the trial. So many people became drawn to the presence of her. I was reading an article where Trump showed quite a bit of sympathy toward her. He offered some legal advice and general condolences, but the reality is that she murdered a man. It is ridiculous how much positive attention she received from the whole trial.

  2. I agree! Like I said in the other post I believe that she enjoyed every part of this trial. She was getting famous for a gruesome murder that occurred. The media was more interested in her then they were in the crime that actually occurred. Travis Alexander son said that he received so much hate mail when it should have been the opposite way around. Jodi Arias received some positive attention from many women and the media which made things I believe 10x worst. She should be receiving negative attention and not a pat on the back.

  3. I also agree that I'm not sure if this case was self- defense, because if it was then Jodi wouldn't have needed to stab him so many times, and then shoot him after he was already dead. Sometimes when you grow up with abuse, it messes with you emotionally. This can also cause mental damage, and make you have problems in relationships. I wouldn't be surprised that she just wanted the attention from the media, and thats why she acted so openly about sharing all that type of info. I have heard of situations where people who were abused at a young age, grow up searching for attention and thinking its okay to receive it in ways that are not normal to everyone else.
