Don't Believe It All

I think this could be looked at in a few different ways. In the prompt it was explained that people use the term witch hunt to describe a search for a threat. If we're looking at it this way there is an obvious issue that comes to mind that our country is facing right now. There are people everywhere in the United States searching and screening people for Ebola. If these people are found they are obviously treated different than the people in the times of The Crucible but they are quarantined and aren't able to do a whole lot, much like those many years ago. This is a clear similarity to the two things. The other way I can make sense of this witch hunt business is that in this book, beliefs are forced on so many people and others don't think twice about believing it. We find out that the witch problem was something that could have been prevented if people wouldn’t be so quick to believe things they don’t absolutely know to be true. This happens so much in today's society. I can't even explain how many times I’ve seen something that is nowhere near believable on the internet and people have no problem feeding into the lies. They are sure that the information must be true and refuse to believe everything else. I’m not sure these “witch hunts” will ever stop because if there is a threat to society everyone’s going to be looking for a cause but I really hope that eventually people start to gain some common sense and do a little research before they believe what they read or see.
