Witch hunts have been taking place since the beginning of humanity. Men and women are often persecuted for their weight or the way they dress. Others are chastised for the way they live their life, whether it is an openly gay person or transgendered, to even the amount of money that they have or a culture they observe that may seem contrary to what we see as normal. We live in a country that was founded in part to a desire to escape religious persecution. We have witnessed multiple genocides both modern and of past based on the religious affiliation such as the Holocaust, or the destruction of Iraqi villages by ISIS and ISL.The Crucible is an excellent example of religious persecution being the front for the intention. Sadly although it is placed in a past time, we ourselves have not come much further than the characters in the book. Due to the events of September 11th many people have a bias twords those who observe the Muslim religion. Because it is a foreign concept to most of us, we have lopped the entire faith into the mold of the extreme views of those who acted on that day. The truth is that the Muslim faith as a whole is not based on violence and most observing the Muslim faith do not want to bring about the fall of Western society. While the situation as a whole is an unfortunate happening, it is even worse when it spills over to those who do not observe the faith at all, and just “look like a Muslim”, or their name “sounds like they are Muslim.”  Sadly, I do not see this changing any time soon.
