In today's society we have a lot of current issues going on, but who is to blame? In the Crucible anyone who was weak or did not typically fit in was blamed for being a witch. They became accused of having witch characteristics and then sentenced to trial.
Today an example of an issue that could be known as modern witch hunt would be the welfare queens. Those who abuse the system use it to get royalties for free. To the working class it makes us upset that we work so hard and get a decent amount of our paycheck taken out to help in support of their lazyness. These queens are very weak and rude people. Although the only thing that distinguishes us from them is a single card it is hard for us to know who exactly is on the system and who actually abuses it. We know it happens but it is virtually impossible to try to stop it. It has unfortunately become a generational thing in many cases. So trying to stop it from the beginning would be difficult so it does not spread. Think about if we sentenced these people to trial many of our other successful businesses would fail because they rely on these witches.
I do not mean to offend anyone with your point of view. I am just stating that the system is abused and just like in the Crucible it is hard telling not knowing who is exactly a witch or who is actually abusing welfare.
