Not always accurate, but fun to think about

As humans, we are always surrounded by reality of work, money and responsibilities that we want to be able to step away from this feeling and go into a new world. We like to get our mind racing about different scenarios because we know it the only way to live these scenes are through books/movies. We relate to these stories because we want to live in these fantasy worlds were happiness usually comes easy and we have powers that are not found in real life. We hope that our lives could be more like these fantasy worlds because it would be more enjoyable and entertaining. This happens specifically when someone is not happy in their present life, so the only way to be happy is through the fantasy world that the readers receives from the book. They enjoy when the book is a narrative because for those hours they become that character  with those magic powers and someone who is the hero in the story. We enjoy being put into those situations because we know that magic and superpowers are not realistic. For those few hours you are able to let your imagination run wild and be able to let go from the world. Science fantasy is popular because it is incredible to see what the possibilities are for the future from cars to technology. Granite people in the 1980s said in the year 2000 we would be robots, living on anther planet with flying cars. It is not always accurate but it makes your mind go wild and think of the possibilities.

  1. I'm not sure if happiness comes easy in Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, but I get your point. It is more of adapting new strengths, powers or abilities. I can see this. I would want to be a part of the Star Wars Universe just so that I can use holograms and light sabers. I would also like to see the consumer goods; imagine something like the iPad 5000. It would be fascinating to experience something so distant.

  2. I agree that sometimes we watch TV and read books to get lost in a world that is not our own. I often read at night before I go to sleep for exactly the reasons you described. At the end of the day when my mind is racing and I can't seem to block out all the troubles of the day, or in most cases the troubles that are waiting for me tomorrow, I lose myself in a book and only then can I settle down for the night.
