Escaping Life

When I was young, I was always the happiest when I was pretending. My sister and I used to always jump from chair to couch to table to chair, not letting ourselves touch the ground because if you did you died because the ground wasn't just the ground, it was all lava. We could be playing something as simple as this for hours on end and never stop giggling. At my day-care, my friends and I always played the famous game of house. We would always relate the events and disasters to real life, such as a tornado coming and we’d have to gather food and find shelter. Our level of imagination and how creative our games were when we were younger is something that we will always remember. There is just something about being in a fantasy world that brings about the happiness in some people.

Some people can connect with fantasy movies even though they are in fantasy worlds for many reasons. One way that people can relate to these movies is that it gives people a break from the real world. I believe there is a huge loss of the value of imagination because of the chaotic ways of everyone’s life that revolves around work, money, and school. I think people who feel connected to these kinds of movies can relate to them because they act almost as a stress reliever for them and a way to escape life. I also feel that people can relate to these fantasy movies because in some cases Star Wars had events that happened that viewers can understand. In the real world, there is such a thing as war, crime and being around a hostile environment and in Star Wars, there planet was being threatened. Emotions and feelings could also be involved because when a character in the movie dies, the viewer might have experienced someone close to them dying. The viewer understands how the character, even though it’s not real, feels. In this movie, Luke has to resolve the issues with his father and make him escape from evil. Someone might be able to relate to this by trying to help a parent escape from alcohol or drug abuse.

  1. I use to play all those games all the time when I was younger with my best friend. I felt like if you didn’t play those games you didn’t have a childhood. Fantasies do make people happier just because they don’t have to live in a life they are dealing with right now. They can make something up that can make them ten times happier than they are right now. I think that is the main reason why I do it personally. I like that you said “it gives people a break form the real world.” You could have not said it any better! I read that line and I just couldn’t agree with you anymore.

  2. I use to play similar games with my sister when I was younger too. It is amazing how creative and adventurous we are a kids. I feel that as we age we lose some of our imagination. Not all of us, but most of us do, unfortunately. I definitely agree with you that people use movies as an escape from reality. We get so caught up in work, school, and daily stress, that we need a to let go.
