9 and 3/4's of Trust

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the reader learns that Harry Potter is quite inquisitive about himself. He appears to be strong due the loss of his parents and having to deal with his aunt's family. He is smart by paying attention to the surrounding world and is careful when it comes to trusting others. Harry understands that he is gifted through out the first several chapters of the book. However, he does not seem to trust his gift and is very blunt. Harry appears to be very uncertain about the gift of wizardry and is not sure what all it entails. After all Harry was raised by muggles after the death of his parents. Harry must learn to trust his gift and others to begin wizardry school at Hogwarts.

The scene in which Harry is looking for his platform he learns to listen to his curiosity and uses his awareness of what is going on around him to make his discovery. As he is approaching the 9th platform he appears to be lost.  Luckily a loud group appeared around him, the Weasley's. They help Harry to make a discovery of the platform and how to enter it. Hesitant, Harry listens to the instructions carefully and also pays close attention to the other wizards as they burst through the wall. Harry with trust breaks through the platform to a new world. Through this scene Harry Potter learns to trust his craft through others; showing his strength, wisdom, and determination to learn more about himself as a wizard.

  1. So basically your saying Harry doesn't quite believe in himself at the start, but then his character begins to grow as he lets people into his circle. I can also see trust as a character strength of his. Growing up in a muggle world and accepting the human beliefs about magic being fake could be a lot to take in when all you've been told is false. I agree, he does seem to pay close attention which helps him a lot. But I feel like his curiosity may be his main strength for gathering knowledge. He always seems to dive right into situations that demand a quick response and usually provides clues to whichever trail he's on.

  2. First off, I would like to say that I love the heading of your past. Second, I would have to agree with you when you say that he does not truly believe that he can be gifted such an incredible talent. His life and who he truly is was hidden from him from the time he was a baby up until his 12th birthday. I can see why he would be hesitant when it comes to believing in another world that his aunt and uncle wanted him to know nothing about. I think that along with Harry's curiosity comes his strength and bravery. By being curious, he pushes himself to limits he did not know he was capable of pushing and that's a huge benefactor for him later on in the book. I do believe that when he starts trusting the Weasley's, he was able to find a "family" that was willing to let him know about the craft of wizardry and magic and that also strengthened him as a character. His trust from the start is huge for the way he is later portrayed.

  3. I agree with you in the fact that he is having to put his trust in others to find his way and to find out more about himself as a wizard. After all he knows practically nothing about this world from being raised by muggles and all. He sure doesn’t know what to expect and is very uncertain about his gift and he does let people know but I get the feeling that he is ashamed about not knowing anything because he is so famous and everyone knows about him and what happened but he didn’t know till a month before he left for school. I also enjoy your title. Good job at being creative.

  4. I will openly admit I have never read any of the Harry Potter stories, and only caught bits and piece of a few of the movies. Based on observation of your post it seems like Harry ran into some good people in his first few encounters in his new found life.If only more situations in real life would allow you to encounter more good natured people who are willing to help guide you through situations they already have experience with.
