Health Watched: Virus On the Raise

Colorado 900 sick kids with respiratory illness: Please watch this video

I chose to free write on a newly discovered virus in the
US. According to ABC News the virus has not been officially identified, but
officials suspect that it is the rare human enterovirus 68 (HEV68). The virus is related to rhinovirus, which causes the common cold.
The virus causes severe respiratory illness especially in those with asthma. Dr. Christine Nyquist, a pediatrician with the Children's Hospital Colorado, told ABC News that “the virus even appears similar to a severe cold, but can be more dangerous.” The first cases of the virus appeared in Colorado on August 18, The Associated Press reported. Since then, there have been over 900 children patients treated in the Children's Hospital Colorado, and the virus has spread into at least 9 other states: Missouri, Kansas, Illinois,Kentucky, Iowa, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Georgia.Doctors are unsure exactly how the virus spreads, but suspect that it has been aided by students returning to school.
Okay guys don’t worried, there hasn’t been any case reported in Pennsylvania yet. If you have children little cousins, nephews or nieces in school make sure to teach them basic sanitary practice to be on the safe side.

  1. Lovefelia,

Everyday on my commute to Mansfield I have been hearing about this awful virus on the radio. It sounds so painful and awful. I think that so many young children are unaware or have not been educated well enough on sanitary practices. Even children who are educated sometimes do not practice it, which is obviously not healthy and is affecting other children. I hope that it does not spread to Pennsylvania! You article was very creative! I like how you chose a news event rather than course material, you seem worldly and like to know what is going on around you!
