Scars remind us that the past is real.

On Page 36 in J.K Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Harry is finally discovering who he is and where he really came from. In this part of the book Hagrid is talking to Harry about what his real history was. Before this Harry just though he was an ordinary boy but with this information her realized that he was meant for a greater destiny
"As Hagrid’s story came to a close, he saw again the blinding flash of green light, more clearly than he had ever remembered it before — and he remembered something else, for the first time in his life: a high, cold, cruel laugh" Harry is realizing that he does vaguely remember what has gone on in his past. He is in the very early stages of finding the connection between him and the Dark Lord. This passage creates the foreshadowing of the correlation between the greatest rivalry in the whole book series. It also find it interesting how Harry has never really thought about the meaning of the scar on his head. When Hagrid points out that its the mark of the Dark Lord Harry has a new perspective on something that he has been looking at for his whole life. Hargid also describes to him that he is famous in the wizarding world because of his survival, even with this information Harry is still humble and kind. Now that Harry knows where he came from he has the motivation to continue on his journey and be who he was always meant to be.
