The Sneaky Professor

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone I was drawn to Shape's personality in chapter 8 specifically pages 136 and 137. In this chapter he is starting his potions class with Harry and while calling roll he is very Sneed when he says Harry this showing that he does in fact know of Harry and his story as everyone else does. This leading to his snide remark about him being there own "celebrity". Therefore pushing that he must know everything and Shapes has a cold and dark way to him that leaves people intimidated this part of his personality gets him a step above some people because he can intimidate them to get the information that he wants and that makes him very knowledgeable.  He goes on to the start of class and instantly starts to badger Harry about questions in potions to test his knowledge even though he knows that Harry does not have the answers. While he does this he over looks Hermione's hand in the air wanting to answer. This part of the chapter is a good representation of how he does not back down from a challenge and also shows his determination when it comes to getting the information that he wants. This part of his personality can also be a very big help when it comes to gaining knowledge and information. He is a very persistent person who will continue to search and look for things in the smallest places to gain information about the topics that interest him and in this case it is Harry and his background.

  1. Hayley,

Snape is a very interesting character with a peculiar personality type. As mentioned in a previous comment, it's tricky to only comment using references in this book with knowledge of what happens in the other books, but his personality type is a great aid for him to acquire knowledge. It is true that his intimidation tactics can make the students afraid of him, therefore getting anything he wants out of them. Some people may not relate to this character type because of his demeanor, but he is not affected because he continues to acquire knowledge while putting people down. I believe being a persistent person is important when trying to gain knowledge because more can be learned.
