Winter's Bones: Family

Watching this film and seeing the struggle of the main character Ree Dolly makes you realize how good your life is.  Where as we have choices, Ree was not given many.  Her only true choice was to go out and try to find a father who had put them in the situation to begin with.  My observations of Ree's life was one of poverty, she could barely put food on the table.  Also, was responsible for all the housework, taking care of the children and mother, and on top of that try and locate her father.

Throughout it all she is blocked by her kin in trying to locate her father.  It seems at every turn she is hit with road blocks until her Uncle Teardrop steps up to help.  It is a sad realization that this is all within a family.  The fact that family would grab you up and beat you to a pulp because they did not want you digging any deeper into his location.  When push comes to shove, I believe Ree did a very good job of not backing down and with her uncle's help they made the family realize that they were not going to go away.

It is so sad to realize that Ree had to go through all these hardships when in the end the family gave in and showed her where her father was at.  Throughout this film there were numerous actions Ree had to deal with and at no point did she succumb to the pressures in her life, which there were many.  It was great to see that through her courageous efforts she was able to win in the end and was rewarded for her determination.
