Curiosity: A Key To Knowledge

The tone or voice of the passage is almost sarcastic.  With the way that the author uses statements such as: “Weather’s horrible.... went to the door, and threw the owl out into the storm.”  Also a sense of bluntness is present when Harry asks if his Uncle Vernon knew that he was a wizard and his response is: “Knew! Of course we knew!”.  Sarcasm and bluntness are not really the same characteristics but they can both convey the same general idea.  That being that the obvious is present and whether one chooses to be sarcastic or blunt; both can be interpreted in a similar fashion due to the fact that people tend to beat around the bush.  The words I immediately noticed were: knew, wizard, muggle, and school.  Honestly I believe these were the words that stuck out mostly because they the majority of them were italicized.  Upon a quick scan of the page and seem to be important to the context of what is happening in the book.  Knew and school certainly can relate to each other as one acquires knowledge while attending school.  A muggle and a wizard are the opposites with muggles being regular, magic-less people, and wizards are people who can use magic.  Harry seems to learn by inferring with what little information he has.  He seems curious and is definitely not afraid to make his opinion known.   By not being afraid to ask questions I think he’s able to learn easily and this is shown throughout the text.
