Harry Potter: Simple and Smart

I have chosen the story Harry Potter and the Sorceress Stone by J. K. Rowling to analyze. The character that I have chosen is Harry Potter for the ways that he uses his knowledge to help him. Harry is a very smart kid and he shows us this many times throughout the book, but we also see that he doesn’t want to revel in the successes that he has earned. The passage that shows this the most has to be at the end after he has found the stone and helped to keep Voldemort away once more. He wakes up and is greeted by Dumbledore who’s sampling Harry’s gifts. They are talking and Harry only asks a few questions about the stone and its current safety. When he learns that the stone has been taken care of and that all is safe he seems to be able to relax some and accept that. Harry is able to accept this because he just wanted the stone and its powers safe, he didn’t want any of the fame and praise that would come from keeping it away from Voldemort. This is why Dumbledore is able to answer these questions truthfully to harry because they both know that he is not after any of the fame, fortune, or power that being given from the stone. All of this is something that makes us see that yes Harry may be famous for being “the boy who lived” but he doesn’t care about any of that. All that he truly cares about is making sure that bad people such as Voldemort don’t get the powers their searching for such as the stone.
