Listen to the People

I had never really thought about sex in space before, so I found myself very intrigued while watching the episode and also gained a strong opinion on the subject. I believe that we should know about everything in space and I do applaud NASSA and all the individuals who have gotten us to this point, but I do not believe that we as humans are suppose to go that far. If humans do start having babies up there and they have to wear earth suits to be on earth, how is that right? How are we to take away the experience of a normal life on earth and put these children in space? I understand there is still so much to figure out with this concept of humans in space, but I believe we will come to a very fine line that will put us in very ethical dilemmas.

Therefore, yes I believe the public should have an opinion on what is happening with their hard earned money! I would want to have my opinion heard and taken into consideration, and I am sure many others agree. Now, I understand many would say I am being very conservative or hard headed not willing to open up to change and discovery, but that is just what I believe. I also think that the public needs to be involved in this decision because if they were to create another world in space things here on earth would change, what we know of the world today could be completely different, and the public needs to be aware and be able to voice opinion in such a big advancement.

  1. Humans were put on Earth, and not Mars, for a reason. We were never meant to be able to live on Mars, and aside from maybe a few scientists spending a limited amount of time on Mars, I don't think humans will ever be living on Mars. All of the scientific research and money in the world will never turn Mars into Earth and will never make it a normal and happy place to live and raise a family. How many people would really want to live on Mars and live a life of constant struggle and survival anyway? It is not just an issue of whether or not people want their tax dollars funding research on sex and reproduction. The bigger question that researchers should be asking is do we even want to actually be living on Mars permanently? If the vast majority of people supports that than I guess they can go ahead and do the research, but I know I would never want that for me. To me it feels too much like we are trying to "play God" and defy the limits that He has set for us - something that will probably come back to bite us in the end.

  2. I find myself taking a different approach to the video than you. It seems to me as though the studying of sex in space will serve as a secondary place should we ever need to leave Earth. The children born in space would not be denied a normal "Earth" life. They would be living their own normal life. How is this different than taking a child out of a foreign country? We are just preparing ourselves to have a secondary place to continue life forms else where if Earth were to be destroyed in the future. Its more helpful to research and study things like life in space so that we aren't ignorant to the idea of possibly expanding onto other planets someday.
