I would definitely need more information to decide if taxpayer money should be used to fund research about sex in space. For instance, what would you be studying about it? How would the tests be run? What information are you looking for? Humans can have sex in space. We know that. What is the point of spending so much money to research weightless sex when we could create that environment here on earth and study it here.
I think it would be more fiscally responsible to first create the testing here on Earth. The scientists can use the weightless chambers that NASA already has and do the hypothesizing and testing here first. Then if it was determined that the results would be different in space somehow they could propose continuing the testing there.
It doesn't make sense to me to use taxpayer money to fund something like this when there are still hungry children and military vets in need of medical care and prosthetics in the United States. Seriously, lets take care of some higher priority stuff first!
Cherie,
ReplyDeleteReading your post was really interesting. You made some extremely good points. I defiantly agree with all of your points. We should at least try to test everything here on Earth first before we do anything else. Doing the testing on Earth first would be a lot safer and you would be saving a lot of money if you did everything here. I really agree with you on the fact that we need to be taking care of other more important things first rather than sex in space. Like, our military and veteran men who are willingly serving our country right now. Great post, Cherie! You really had some strong points and a really good argument.
I also feel like I would need more information on this topic to see if it would be something I would be okay with them spending money on. I thought you made a good point about being hungry children and military vets needing medical care. I didn't think about that before but it's very true. It seems like it would be more important for these things to be taken care of before researching sex and reproduction in space. You made a great argument!
ReplyDeleteAs a society we would want more information on anything with such a magnitude of spending would be happening. I do agree we have the technology to do things like that here on earth why spend so much money worrying about testing in space first. I understand duplicating such difference in atmosphere would be hard but even replicating a closer atmosphere on earth would be way more beneficial than putting any kind of human through that kind of testing so far from home. Cause as the book "Packing for Mars" stated they go kind of crazy being so far from everyday earthly tasks.
