Without Curiosity

I don't know if something is just wrong with me, but I feel as if I'm not as curious as others. I live in the moment and just take things in as they are. Sometimes when the sky is filled with beautiful stars I go "Wooooooow", not "I wonder how those things got there" or, "I need to go up there and get a closer look." Maybe I am a curious person when it comes to other things but when it comes to space you have my brain just not feeling the need to fill this void. I'm a very philosophical person and my brain is constantly thinking but space is just something that rarely creeps into my thought. But some human beings love to venture into the unknown. It could be courageousness or just that deep desire to know everything. Maybe someone has another motive like being famous or getting paid a lot of money. I guess without this, Christopher Columbus would've never sailed the ocean blue and America would've been discovered later on. I may not be a daring Christopher Columbus but I know that there are a lot of people like him out there. Without these people, more and more discoveries will be made especially in space. Also, without our immense curiosity we would not understand germs now or fully understand the way the human body works. In my History of Medicine course, we learn that in the 18th century no one had a clue about germs and doctors went from dissecting cadavers to delivering babies in their bare hands. Then many women were dying of infection. Without the curiosity of why thousands of women dying, the idea of germs would still be a little shaky and more of a new idea to us. Clearly, without our curiosity we would be screwed and always confused.

  1. I feel almost exactly the same as you about being not as curious about some people and sometimes I feel as if there's something wrong with me. I don't really think that's the case though I think there needs to be a balance of people that need to know and some that don't. Seems like it would get a little hectic if everyone needed to know everything about everything. I also really liked your reference to your History of Medicine course. It seems so crazy now that anyone would do anything without gloves but at the time they didn't know any better. Definitely an interesting thing to think about!

  2. well as they say, "curiosity killed the cat". Being too curious can lead to a person's demise, however, I like the risk of taking that plunge into the unknown. I don't believe all people are cut out to be an explorer type, but it's great that some others are. As you said, if people didn't explore the microscopic world of germs we may have had a bit of a pandemic on our hands now. I for one am one of those star gazers that wonder what it looks like up close, but that's just me.

  3. I think we are all curious about different things. If all of us focused on the same task there would be nothing else discovered. As individuals I think we develop our own passions. For some, their passions led them to space for others it led them to discover antibiotics. With this diversity the World of the unknown is conquered one individual at a time and nothing needs to remain unknown.

  4. You’re not alone; I too enjoy living in this moment and only stressing curiosity when I need it most. To me I feel you are more interested in what is happening on Earth. Though the cosmos are fantastic and full of yearning mystery, there is still mystery to solve down on solid ground. Once we have cracked the code of the primordial ooze, then we can focus on the ever expanding atmosphere that lies above our heads. And who knows, we spend all this time trying to get to space and one day space may very well come to us instead.

  5. I totally see where you're coming from, but I feel that all humans are different. So humans are going to feel curious and interested in different things. We are going to want to learn and explore the things that we care or find interesting. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that. We don't want society having all the same curiosity because then we would all be focused on one thing like space, instead of all the other things out there that we could explore. Good post!!
