Sexual Frustrations On Every Planet

My first thoughts before digging into this episode were "seriously, I think humans can control themselves a little bit and contain those urges." Having watched and thought on the actual reasoning behind this study is that part of me would be alright if the tax money I already pay goes towards this study. It is very possible that one day we will colonize on Mars or the moon, it could easily be a reality and the necessity of reproduction will be there. However I also see several problems coming from this study as well. If we live in colonies in space I fully assume we will have gravity in whatever kind of homes we live in. So these needs for sex suits without gravity would be more for travel, which I think could be held off as much as I would miss being intimate with my husband. There is also the social problem and drama that will come from needing to take things farther, the gay community wanting to change the suits and do studies there. I have nothing against that, I can just see so many dramatics coming from paying for those studies because that's how people are.

There is another side of me, which any woman who has been pregnant can agree with. Being huge and uncomfortable but having those sexual desires can be extremely frustrating. I imagine this situation while being in space for such a long time, with someone you love and those urges presenting itself. I can see several people being there and wishing they had opted for these studies. Sexual frustration is real no matter which planet you are on, and being close to the one you love is important to any relationship. I support people like this husband and wife who are maturely attacking this situation. I would have slightly different opinions for those just doing it for gratifying sexual desires.

  1. I agree that we should look into this issue further as well. I did not consider the true possibility of colonizing Mars or the moon, but these are more realistic and probable then we realize. This is another point that further legitimizes this research. I never thought of the social consequences of having sex in space and how we must consider all people (heterosexuals and homosexuals alike) when conducting this research either. There is much to consider socially when thinking of these studies and we must consider we are human and ultimately are hard wired to want to have sex.

  2. I agree with what you have to say about this issue. What buildings they make or places to say on space for the future generations to be able to live in space will probably have gravity for them so we wouldn't have to worry about the suits or the tunnels these would be for the people that travel from area to area or for a long period of time and like the video said sometimes depending on the person the sex drive will increase or decrease and until we are in that situation we will not know what to do or how to handle it and will have to be prepared for the future to come to see.

  3. The whole situation seems to be based on hypotheticals really. The very science of sex is a relatively new school of thought compared to other sciences. While we may be able to simulate gravity, what effects does not being within Earth's atmosphere alone do to us? Sex would be important for colonization, but I don't think they are testing the right things. Just my opinion.
