After watching the two videos, I was left a little
confused. I didn’t really see the point
in them that much. It seems they are both
speaking to a time that isn’t even close to happening yet. All of the ideas shared seemed to be useful
in the distant future. It didn’t seem to
me that any of those ideas made sense now.
The only way that I can see that these programs would make any sense to
spend the tax payer dollars on is if we had no other options. If Earth was not a place we could live
anymore and that we knew we had to do something about it; then spend the money
and begin to find a way for the human race to exist on another planet. I don’t believe that is the case though. I think that our Earth being uninhabitable is
a long ways off.
I do believe that NASA should be accountable to the
tax payers for what they are spending our hard earned dollars on. We are the ones funding the programs, so why
can’t we know what the money is being allocated towards. Maybe the scientists can justify spending all
this money now to craft special suits that would allow couples to be more in
intimate in space. But I am not seeing
the value in that now. We definitely
aren’t taking leisurely trips in space right now. We are still only sending astronauts up to
learn as much as they can about scientific endeavors not about
procreating. This all seems very silly
to me. Maybe I am off base in my
thinking and that there really is a good reason why this is all happening but
right now that isn’t clear to me at all.
Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteYour post states exactly what I was thinking after watching the video. People are too caught up in something that is not going to happen within the next few years. It will be a very long time before humans are ready to live in space. Research into sex and sexuality in space at this point does not seem valuable because no one knows for sure if that is something that will be valuable. This topic will make more sense as we get further into space exploration and find more answers, but even then looking into how or if we will be able to do other everyday things should be researched instead.
I got kicked out of my google account after previously trying to comment so I'm not sure if it posted our not. I agree with what you said 100%. If it was out of necessity I would be all for it, but at this moment in time I just cannot wrap my head around being okay with my time and money being used for this. I am all about furthering the human race but right now I feel that there are more pressing issues that need to be addressed.
ReplyDeleteKimberly,
ReplyDeleteYour post does not seem silly at all. I agree with you 100 percent. You are right, we are the ones that are funding these types of programs, so we do have a right to know what our money is being spent on. Honestly, I do not understand this at all either. Why should we have to test all of this now? We have bigger and better problems to figure out. We can come to this problem when it actually needs to be solved right? Right now, we can all just focus on having sex and giving birth here on Earth rather than in Space. In space it is just too complicated, I feel right now.
I completely agree with you! I was a little confused why this topic was even being researched. You made a great point that maybe if we were unable to live here any longer that it would make sense to do extensive research about reproducing in space but for now there are other things our tax dollars should be used for. I also thought that I might be off base when it comes to this topic but I really just cant see the relevance.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I was not the only one left confused. I was wondering why we as a society we are even considering this a feasible. We are in no way at this point in life as we know it in risk of not being able to inhabit this planet. Why are we so worried about inhabiting another planet?
