"Sorry, I Left the Condoms on Earth..."

Whither or not I agree or disagree with public opinion in space, we barely have any public opinion on Earth to back it up. Our society is so focused around our all-powerful governments that even when they say we matter they usually rule us out. Like these videos said in the beginning, NASA itself was a company that was built around secrecy, the public only ever got to see the start or the finish of a project and never what lied in between. In my opinion I do feel that we should have a say in what our money is doing. The fact that we have to sacrifice that hard earned money, I sure as hell want to know what it’s doing but this is another problem that I see with this concept. Think of going out and buying a soda at a gas station, you use your hard earned money to buy one of their products. Then afterwards the clerk at that gas station call you up to let you know the money you used to pay for the soda was used to buy a bigger shipment of soda for the station. See this kind thing doesn't happen. Once we pay for something the money it is technically no longer ours. It belongs to the possession of the one we paid it too. This can easily be said about taxes and government expenses. With that being said the counter to this is that we knew we were buying the soda instead of paying and not knowing if there using it to buy a soda. This I indeed a very slippery slope and honestly will probably stay this way until a massive change in government occurs. All I know is if I had the urge to have sex in space, then I’m going to do it. One thing I know is we may have more intelligence in our brains but the laws of nature still play a massive role in our lives to this day.

  1. I literally laughed out loud at your title. I agree with what you are saying for the most part, in my mind if we are required to pay taxes and then it is all sent out for various studies that is one thing. But if we have to start paying extra for this study, I'd possibly want to push that off for a bit as it isn't a situation we deal with in our current present.
To comment on your statement "All I know is if I had the urge to have sex in space, then I'm going to do it." I feel that in this situation, not having any gravity, would put a big damper on that, leaving someone extremely sexually frustrated. That may be the moment we all go "oh...I wish I had supported that study" as we attempt to bang our heads against the wall, which makes us even more upset because we can't even do that.

  2. I throughly enjoyed reading your post! You brought up something I did not even think about how the government does basically have full say even if they say it is decided on public opinion. I believe the public should have a say in what goes on with their money, but if NASSA would take into consideration public opinion what is the chances that the government would just step in and take say over it all anyways? Also how is NASSA suppose to use the public opinion? Because I'm sure like any issue there is people are going to be for and against it. Those are some of the tough questions that people in charge would really have to examine. Overall, I really enjoyed your post!

  3. Along with everyone else I laughed at your title and your analogy kind of put things in perspective. Its not right, but it would happen whether I wanted it to or not. I feel like this might be something that would be better to be privately funded if possible. I guess I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of it.
