Before reading Packing
for Mars I hadn’t really given a thought about space at all because I’m not
sure it actually matters a whole lot to me. Yes it’s interesting to know that
there is so much more out there and that it’s important for us as human beings
but the lack of information makes me wonder. It such a complex and large space
to even think about knowing everything but how much does not knowing impact us.
There are also so many different ways to think about the word universe and I’m
sure that no one thinks exactly the same about it.
Another interesting thing about the universe is how small we
actually are in the grand scheme of things. If this universe is so big and
unknown we must just be a tiny portion of it. When I first think about the
universe I think of basically us on a tiny little planet surrounded by black
space. After I thought about it for a while however, I think it’s strange to
think of us as small. We are the biggest things we can really be sure of. When
we see something we feel is large, it’s really not at all compared to the
bigger picture. Sometimes that’s hard to think about considering we don’t really
know a whole lot about what is out there. What’s also interesting is that there
could be life just like we live somewhere in the universe. With all of the
advances in technology it’s surprising that we don’t know more.
