"Life In A box"

Reading this book was an eyes opening for me to the world of astronaut. Half way through this book I kept asking myself like who could have ever imaging such an environment existed. I knew it was scary and dangerous, but never have I thought it would be such a terrible . One chapter that got my attention in  was chapter two “Life in A box”. We all know how easy it is to snap at someone being too close to you, imaging yourself having to experience what astronaut goes through. It was hard and disturbing at the same time trying to picture being in a tight place for a length of time. The first thing that came to my mind was space, because we all love our personal space.
Packing for Mars, though, is about far more going to the bathroom in space. Chapter two covers the psychological issues of long-duration spaceflight, the various issues of living and working in weightlessness, hygiene in space. I want to believe that being an astronaut is far harder than any field.  “You’re sleep-deprived, and you have to perform perfectly or else you don’t fly anymore. As soon as you’re done with something, ground control is telling you something else to do. You can’t go home, you can’t be with your family, you can’t relax. And you’re not well paid” (Roach 53). It sounds like a really stressful job, yet none of the astronaut are able to voice their opining because they are in fear of losing their spot.  Another thing that kept showing up in this chapter is that astronauts depend on each other to stay alive. I would think that unity is one of the most important part of being an astronauts, however is not as important as I though.

  1. I really annoyed your article. I think it is so unfortunate that astronauts develop psychological issues. But it truly makes sense. Could you imagine being weightless in a strange environment in a quiet dark timeless area. The only people who you talked to were the few others who passed their origami test. I would not have been able to handle these issues.i liked your in text quote, because being so far from home would be awful.
