We as humans seem to have an innate
thirst for knowledge. It is more than just
a simple curiosity about the world around us. We seem to want to know everything about
everything. We keep pushing ourselves
further and further into the unknown because once we know and understand one thing,
we are thirsting for knowledge about something else. We want to be able to explain the things that
cannot be explained and we will stop at nothing until we can fully understand
what that thing is. I think, for some of
us anyway, it gives us a sense of power.
If we understand something, we feel like we can control it better and
that gives us a sense of satisfaction.
This thirst for knowledge about the
world around us has had a tremendous impact on human civilization. It’s what
gives us the desire and the ability to keep progressing further and further
into the unknown, to expand human civilization from one continent to the next,
and to improve (or perhaps sometimes hurt) our quality of life.
This desire to understand the world
around us and to push the limits of our abilities as humans will continue to
have a tremendous impact on how we live.
We have made tremendous strides as a human race and accomplished unbelievable
feats, but what does all of this mean for the future? Will we ever be satisfied, or will we continue
to explore and to push the boundaries of what is considered possible? Where
will this lead us in the future? It’s
hard to say. I think a lot of good has
come from our desire for knowledge. It has
also gotten us into trouble too, but then again, maybe we will learn from our
mistakes…maybe.
I definitely agree with your opening thoughts that humans seem to have a natural thirst for knowledge. It is true that we are pushing ourselves to learn more and more about the universe and world around us. To a certain degree, knowledge is power, therefore the hunt for more knowledge would seem to be understandable as one can never know everything. Interesting that you mention that our thirst could hurt our quality of life, I had never considered our thirst as being negative in any affect. I do not believe we can ever be satisfied; we will probably keep pushing the envelope further and further as we move forward.
ReplyDeleteKnowledge is definitely the backbone of our endless curiosity towards anything unknown. It's why we have every single bit of knowledge we do today, and why the curiosity train will never stop. Everything will realistically never be understood, so our knowledge gains as a civilization will never stop. I also agree that power is another contributing factor. We embrace danger to gain the ability to control the unknown in future interactions.
ReplyDeletei agree with you that We as humans seem to have an innate thirst for knowledge. we also want to know all and everything. To answer your question "Will we ever be satisfied" No human would never be satisfied with anything. we will keep exploring into the unknown.
