The countdown

It amazes me how every single little detail was important in order to take off earth. The engineers must calculate the correct amount of fuel and oxygen for an astronaut to survive. "Everything one takes for granted in earth must be rethought, relearned, rehearsed." The human is the most important piece of the rocket. Humans play such a huge role in making sure that there will be success. At the same time you are the most annoying and complex part of the rocketship. You require oxygen and to be fed. If you die in space they cannot replace you. But the rocketship a new one could be made again. Getting a human ready for space is the hardest part of the whole trip, so let's take off.

It really interested me how Roach included you as the human in being part of the adventure. She truly lures you in with her wording. This book was an excellent read.

  1. I never thought of it this way but now you have made me use my brain. We as humans are the mot important part of these adventures. If people did not go into space researchers would not have data to go off. They need us to go up and collect information to bring back down.
