After watching the two
videos, I do believe that the space program should be held accountable to
public opinion. There is a lot that goes into the space program and so people
that have a part in keeping the program running should have a say in what is
being researched. People’s money are being used so they deserve to say if they
think what the space program is doing is valuable or not. At this point, I don’t
think that researching sex and sexuality in space is as important as focusing
on the other aspects of the program. I think the people in the video were
getting ahead of themselves when talking about having babies in space. Our
priority should not be mammalian development in a weightless setting because
there is still a lot to learn about space and humans are doing just fine down
here. There are so many things that can go wrong with humans trying to conceive
in space and there isn’t a study out there that says it’s safe and even the
animal studies aren’t very successful. As we move further into space
exploration and we get more answers, then researching sex and sexuality in
space would make more sense and be more valuable. I feel like taxpayers would
be more understanding towards research into sex and sexuality in space if the
space program had definite proof that humans are ready to start a new life in a
place other than Earth, but unfortunately that is going to take a lot of time
to accomplish. I agree with Sheryl’s idea in the video about sending people comfortable
with their sexuality and are mature enough to deal with any issues that may
come up during exploration.
I do believe that we may not have to be worried about leaving the earth anytime soon but I do think that it is valuable to study the process of giving birth in space. I also agree that we should be focusing on inhabiting another planet before they think about having children but I do think it will all be helpful in the long run for the human race.
