Social media has become extremely popular in recent years
and for good reason. There are a lot of benefits to using social media. While
not everybody will agree that it is a good thing and there are certainly some
disadvantages to it on the whole it would be fair to say that the benefits outweigh
the negatives. Social media enables us to build an intimate relationship called
“Ambient Intimacy” and expand our knowledge of the world we live in.
I believe that social networking changed the forms of
personal intimacy in a good manner. Depending on the circumstances, social
networking does more good than bad for intimacy. One main feature of social
media is its emphasis on creating and maintaining relationships. Social media
enables us to connect with many people, from all walks of life, than we might
normally meet in a normal work-week.
Take Facebook for example, many people including myself used
Facebook on a regular basis to stay connected with friends and families around
the world. My phone, laptop, iPod and iPad are all link to my Facebook account.
Basically I’m in touch with friends and family 24/7 because I receive
notification to my phone even if I am not on Facebook. I’m up-to-date on what my friends and
families are up to through Facebook statuses, wall post and picture share.
Furthermore, I have the opportunity to chat with them on a daily bases. Although the everyday face to face aspect is missing, it gives me the sense of relieve
knowing that they are well and health.

ReplyDeleteYou make a very good point in mentioning that social media lets you interact with people you wouldn't usually meet in a normal work-week. In the early years of college I made quite a few friends with a lot of help from social networking. It is a lot easier to grab someone's name and have the opportunity to facebook them any time you want to hang out than it is to make a time to meet up shortly after meeting them for the first time.
