While every introduction to something new has its pros and
cons. Yes social networking whether it be dating site, or sites where you can
find a job have their ups and down. Dating sites such as eharmony.com,
match.com you will always take the risk of wondering if they are who they say
they are. Did they lie answering the questions, did they post the most recent
picture they have of themselves or is it a picture from 40 years ago. Just as
anything it’s a judgment call on your behalf, how do you want to proceed in the
situation? Are you going to dive in full force, or take a more timid approach? That is the positive of internet dating site
you decide who has the “ball” so to speak. While they may send you a flirt or a
wink for initial contact you truly do have the option of where to go next, you
could be the one to send a wink, or a flirt. I think this all has to do with what YOUR
personality is like… are you an introvert or an extrovert, trusting or been
hurt. The leading personality trait that forces us to make decision is FEAR,
fear of rejection, fear of the not knowing.
The introduction to Indeed.com, Monster.com all sites where
you can search for jobs, they might be awesome job sites. However, just like
any other site you must take the knowledge with grain of salt. Those websites
are great tools for hunting for a job. I myself have used them but I take that
information and do research on the company before just shipping my resume into
cyber space. Limiting where I send my resume has its pros and cons as well as
just letting it be accessible to anyone. I for one know I hate to have my email
folders spammed of “notifications”. Albeit I do believe that job websites have
been a wonderful thing for those that need to search for jobs in a different
area than what they live. Someone who is looking to move across country, or even
just a different part of the state. I have found that job website more helpful
than hurtful, and for the most part still create human intimacy. You have the
phone call to the company, then a lot of places even though have your resume
still want you to come in an fill out an application, then you have the
interview process, and hopefully after all this you will have a job in which
you’re having contact with other people every day.
While social networking has affected forms of personal
intimacy, it hasn’t had the worst impact on society as a whole because at the
end of the day it’s still OUR decision how much power we let social networking
have over our life. Regardless of anything that is introduced we are still the
driving force in how things be it the internet, TV, junk food affect our life. That
would be like saying the makers of chips caused us to be fat. I truly do think
as a society we have forgotten that ownership of the issue, whatever the issue
might be, isn’t what was introduced to us but it was how we reacted to the
introduced item.
