I like to think that there are both positive and negative attributes to social networking. One of my very best friends from high school lives in North Carolina. Without social media it would be very difficult to keep up with her and share our pictures of our children. I love being able to frequently keep up with her and share day to day things about our lives. I can't imagine trying to keep up with just telephone calls and letters. I don't feel our connection would have never been able to be maintained as strongly as it has over the years without social media.
I think that many people have benefited from dating sites. I work with a man that moved here from Scotland because he met the woman of his dreams on a dating site that connected them. He moved here, they got married, and have two beautiful girls. They would have never met if it hadn't been for the dating site matching them together. What a long shot, huh?
I also think that there are evil people that use social media to prey on people. One of my husband's friends worked with the man that was killed by the Craig's List Killers. They used Craig's list to find their prey and lure him in and kill him. What a wake up call. You never really know who you are communicating with unless it is someone from your past. I guess the take away is that you can never be too careful. You do have to take chances and be smart when using social media. It is a fine line that you must walk to be social yet not become prey.
I agree with your post about how social networking is helpful and convent when you are trying to stay connected with family and friends long distant. Its sometimes hard to find time to keep up. My brother lives in California where there is a three hour time difference. If it wasn't for Instagram and Facebook I wouldn't be able to keep up with whats going on with him. I am only able to text him and occasionally talk to him on the phone. So social media and networking has helped me keep a close connection with my brother.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that social networking has its pros and cons. It's great to keep in touch with people who are a great distance away. And also those annoy relatives that no one really wants to have face to face conversation s with. It's also nice to be able to post pictures for everyone to see. I feel as though dating sites are a bit to iffy for me personally. There is to much uncertainty in my mind to try it. The show Catfish on MTV is a prime example
