The age of social networking

Today’s generation is known as the age of social media. Social networking dominates today’s society and it doesn’t only effect the younger generations. Facebook is the prime example of the most used social networks. Social networks give the ability to connect and keep in subtle contact with friends, families, and acquaintances.  In my opinion, I believe Facebook is a great asset and yet a burden. It’s great that it allows for people to keep in contact with a click of a button, but honestly if you actually like those people then why can’t you pick up the phone and call them? Or take the time to write a letter or even make a lunch date? Social networks have decreased the amount of human to human interaction. Not only does Facebook keep people from making an effort to see one another, but also takes away from when people are with each other. How many times do you use your phone and check Facebook when you are in class, or hanging out with friends? I’m known for my social networking by my friends because I am always on them, just like I know many are.

Other types of social networks, such as Tinder and Hot or not, takes another spin on things. These networks are set up more for making new connections and or relationships. From my experiences on Tinder, all people go on there to do is “hook up.” I personally go on there for the entertainment because of the funny pickup lines I’ve received. I remember this chick sending me a message that read, “Are you a bowl of lucky charms? Because you look magically delicious!” Now I don’t care who you are, that’s funny! I downloaded tinder to my phone just so that my buddy and I could have a competition to see how many people would match with us. Turns out it is great entertainment.
