Networking Friends

Electronic social networking and media has affected personal intimacy in several ways, some for the good and some for the bad. The one I believe that the one that is a bigger deal today is the fact that it makes the world "smaller", in the fact that it allows you to reach several people from all around the world. It gives a new meaning to the word pen pal, you can find and talk to someone from across the country, or around across the world! The mere fact that you can just sit down at a computer and talk to someone that is a world away is just amazing. This is something nice about Facebook, it just has everyone from all over on one social media. You can message the people and keep up with what they are doing as well even without having to make contact with them. In some instances people find other people that match them better than someone that is in their area. This also gives people a way to get away from things in their life and just let loose to people on the internet and be themselves if they feel as though they can't be themselves to the people that are normally around them in person. Over all I believe that social networking has affected personal intimacy in lots of ways but for the better in the fact that people can be themselves and expand their friends, in different places and ways.

  1. I completely agree with you! I think that its amazing how you can stay in touch with people from around the world! I have a cousin in New Zealand who I keep in touch with through Facebook, and family in FL, OH, and other states. I would not be able to communicate with them as often or keep up with their lives if it wasnt for Facebook because traveling is expensive! Though I know many people point out negative aspects of social media such as privacy, and lack of physical meeting, I still believe that it is a positive thing.

  2. I agree with you saying that the invention of Facebook is a good thing. Having people from all over the world on one site is crazy but crazy in the way that there is a way to get in contact with someone in China. Yes, people are also able to find other people that they can connect with that aren’t in their own areas expanding their own network to the rest of the world. This is good but it is not always good. People have to be careful about meeting people online because of the other not so good people out there.

  3. I like the approach you took, I took a more negative approach of how it has destroyed this generation. You have looked at the positive side it has offered us that pathway to meet new people and to get to know someone who is across the world. Which is a nice feature , but as you said people can also disguise themselves. Many pretend to be someone that they are not just to seem cool which I think is unfair but people do it. The kind of hide behind a keyboard in a sense.

  4. What would the world do without facebook? Honestly take that into consideration. Without Facebook we would all be lost because we wouldn't be able to kkeep in contact with one another. Also the fact that you can contact anyone allows us to interact with people we normally wouldn't be able too. It's kind of crazy to think of how many people you can meet with just the click of a button.
