I personally think that there are pros and cons to the
technology we have now a days. It is bad because there are some people that are
so attached to their phones that they don’t often notice everything going on
around them and people can lose the intimacy of conversation face to face. But there
are other people that use technology in a good way. We are now able to connect
with people we would never have been able to before. Maybe some long lost
family member can be found or now you can even find your spouse online. Social networking
has not completely destroyed the forms of personal intimacy. In some ways it
has increased personal intimacy. Increased in ways that if people use it to get
in touch with someone to make plans to see them in person it helps keeping in
contact with people. There are more long distance relationships because people
can keep in contact via text, phone call, skype, or even FaceTime. Having social
networking, although has made it easier for people to say things they wouldn’t have
normally said because they can either hide behind a computer or phone. Whether this
be good or bad it can be an issue with bullying and harassment. With people
posting where they are all the time it can also cause issues of stalkers. People
are now more likely to be able to find where you located and this is not always
good. All in all, social networking is not all bad and has not completely destroyed
all forms of personal intimacy. There will always be people that don’t like
technology and prefer face to face conversation. I am one of those people. It is
nice to have the technology, but I don’t think that it is all gone yet.
This is a great post. I really like how you explained both the positive and negative aspects of technology on personal intimacy. I do agree with you that it is a lot easier for people to say in contact with distant relatives. Personally I have family in Arizona, Texas , and Florida so Facebook is a great opportunity to keep up-to-date. The internet is also negative because it allows people to be fake and bully others. I believe that the pros and cons are equally balanced but the internet has without a doubt has impacted personal interactions, whether they are good or bad.
